The Selphyl® System is the next generation of platelet-rich plasma. Platelets are a cellular component of our blood and are known to release a variety of growth factors that respond to tissue injury, where they initiate and promote healing.
When Selphyl is injected into the facial area, growth factors are released for up to seven days, supporting collagen production and increased vascularization, which results in visible overall skin improvement including elasticity, texture, and volume. The Selphyl procedure is minimally invasive as the PRFM product is made from a small sample of the patient’s blood.
After administering SELPHYL®-prepared PRFM, growth factors are released by forming a three-dimensional cross-linked fibrin matrix. This matrix is important to the platelet plug as it acts as ar both platelets and growth factors, allowing their sustained release. The fibrin matrix, also known as scaffolding, localizes the growth factors and their concentration at the intended tissue regeneration site. Research shows that platelet growth factors are released for up to seven days, supporting collagen production and increased vascularization, which leads to overall skin improvements.
The SELPHYL® System is a safe and efficient method of collecting and isolating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for injection. It is free from any animal or synthetic products, meaning the risk of an allergic reaction is virtually non-existent. There have been no reported side effects associated with SELPHYL® to date. However, as with any injectable procedure, some patients may experience mild and temporary irritation, swelling, bruising, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the injection site.
